About Us
Blackwell Home Inspections, LLC was founded by me, Bruce Blackwell, in October 2003. As the sole owner and inspector, I took on the nickname “The House Geek,” and am known throughout the Central Virginia region by either name.
Throughout my earlier career, I worked as a pressman at a major corporation, but I didn’t feel that was what I wanted to continue to do. When I learned that a friend was inspecting houses for a living, I asked if I could tag along and see what it was like. After assisting him with 80 inspections, I decided it was time to form my own company. I took the appropriate classes to obtain my licensure while working construction jobs and launched Blackwell Home Inspections.
Blackwell Home Inspections is certified by the American Society of Home Inspectors (ASHI) and is a member in good standing with the Virginia Association of Real Estate Inspectors (VAREI).
From the beginning, I chose to associate myself with ASHI. This Association is the oldest and most recognized professional organization for home inspectors in North America and has the toughest requirements to become a member and maintain membership. ASHI’s Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics are the most widely recognized in the industry. I’m proud to be a member.
Who We Work For
Blackwell Home Inspections serves clients throughout the Central Virginia area, with the majority of our home inspection clients coming to us via referral from Realtors and past clients. We perform residential home inspections for:
- Realtors and their clients looking to purchase a home
- Individuals looking for a pre-sale inspection when considering selling their home
How We Charge
Our fees are highly competitive and are calculated based on several factors, including the home’s square footage and age. Inspections outside our normal range may incur travel fees as well.

Typical Inspection Time
We like to allow between two and three hours for an average home inspection. Your inspection time may vary due to factors individual to your home.
